“Here’s the news: I am going to sue the Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company, manufacturers of Pall Mall cigarettes, for a billion bucks! Starting when I was only twelve years old, I have never chain-smoked anything but unfiltered Pall Malls. And for many years now, right on the package, Brown & Williamson have promised to kill me.
But I am eighty-two. Thanks a lot, you dirty rats. The last thing I ever wanted was to be alive when the three most powerful people on the whole planet would be named Bush, Dick and Colon.” - Kurt Vonnegut, (November 11, 1922 - April 11, 2007) A Man Without a Country

Jurgi Persoons fall / winter 1998

Grass roots
What is it about Belgium that breeds such downright distinctive designers? Tip-toeing in the footsteps of art-house Antwerpians Demeulemeester, Margiela and Van Noten comes Jurgi Persoons, designer of feckless, fluid mens and womenswear that’s well worth a second glance. Sadly, unless you venture to the prestigious Louis store in Antwerp, you won’t be able to cast an appreciative eye over it, because no British buyer has snapped Persoons up – yet. With his gift for combining unusual fabrics (lace, tartan) and cutting a tailored dash, it won’t be long before the Bursteins and beyond are phoning through their orders.
